Historical reconstruction

Historical reconstruction rebuilds a position's full history from the fund's inception date, including periods before Syncrone was connected.

Portfolio tools index from the date they are connected to a fund. Before that date there is no cost basis, no P&L, and no performance record, even though the capital was deployed and the returns were earned.

The data gap#

A time-weighted return computed from March for a fund that launched in January is a different calculation, not an approximation of the real figure. The missing cash flows change the result. An audit trail that begins at onboarding cannot verify a claim about any period before it.

Why completeness matters#

Auditability requires completeness. If the record starts at onboarding, an auditor can attest only to performance from that date and has nothing to test for the period before it.

Syncrone reconstructs entry date, cost basis, and daily valuations for any position, regardless of how long ago it was opened. The result is one continuous timeline from inception to today, over which TWR, IRR, and every risk metric are computed.

What you get#

  • Performance from actual inceptionRecord the entry date, quantity, and cost for any position, including positions opened months or years before Syncrone was connected. TWR, IRR, Sharpe, and every other metric are computed from that date.
  • Accurate cost basis from day oneCost basis determines everything downstream: realized P&L, unrealized P&L, and return on investment. If cost basis starts at onboarding rather than inception, every historical P&L figure is wrong. Syncrone anchors cost basis at the actual entry date.
  • Continuous history, no gapsDaily valuations can be filled for any period before coverage began, producing an unbroken timeline from inception to today.
  • Automatic daily extensionOnce reconstructed, positions are extended forward automatically every day, so the record stays current without a manual re-run.
  • Same computation pathReconstructed positions go through exactly the same computation as natively tracked positions. There is no separate methodology and no different code path.

The reconstructed timeline is visible everywhere the period filter offers ITD (inception to date): the dashboard NAV chart, every performance page, and each position drawer. Day-by-day state is browsable in Snapshots.

Why it holds up#

An allocator comparing an on-chain fund against a manager with a five-year audited track record is comparing a complete record with an incomplete one. Reconstruction closes that gap: the performance record is continuous from inception, computed by a single deterministic engine, and backed by a transaction-level audit trail that covers the whole period.
